  • This playful, creative snack will make kids smile (or squirm!). It also offers a burst of energy and nutrition for a healthful party snack.

Worms in their apples? Yum! This inventive,
fun snack is delightfully suited for kids.

Ingredients

  • 8 apples
  • 1 jar natural peanut butter (or sunflower seed butter if peanut allergies are a concern)
  • 1 package gummy worms
  • 1 package classic spearmint leaf jelly candies
  • 1 lemon

Tools and Materials

  • Cutting board
  • Sharp knife
  • Apple corer

Directions

  • Wash and dry apples.

  • Using an apple corer, remove the entire core of each apple and discard.

  • Turn the apple sideways and make a hole on the side of the apple with the corer. Be careful not to go all the way through – you only want to reach the center of the apple.

  • With the apple still on its side, make a cut through the center of the "worm hole." Slice all the way through, separating the top third from the bottom.

  • As soon as you finish cutting each apple, rub the cut sides with the juice of the lemon. This will help prevent browning.

  • Scoop 1 tablespoon of peanut butter and fill the core and some of the hole of each bottom piece.
Place a gummy worm in the hole on the side, and place the apple top back on.

  • Cut the spearmint jelly leaf in half lengthwise to make it thinner.

  • Top off the apple with spearmint leaf candy. Use more peanut butter if necessary to keep it in place.
