“Worms in their apples? Yum! This inventive,
”
fun snack is delightfully suited for kids.
Ingredients
- 8 apples
- 1 jar natural peanut butter (or sunflower seed butter if peanut allergies are a concern)
- 1 package gummy worms
- 1 package classic spearmint leaf jelly candies
- 1 lemon
Tools and Materials
- Cutting board
- Sharp knife
- Apple corer
Directions
Wash and dry apples.
Using an apple corer, remove the entire core of each apple and discard.
Turn the apple sideways and make a hole on the side of the apple with the corer. Be careful not to go all the way through – you only want to reach the center of the apple.
With the apple still on its side, make a cut through the center of the "worm hole." Slice all the way through, separating the top third from the bottom.
As soon as you finish cutting each apple, rub the cut sides with the juice of the lemon. This will help prevent browning.
Scoop 1 tablespoon of peanut butter and fill the core and some of the hole of each bottom piece.
Place a gummy worm in the hole on the side, and place the apple top back on.Cut the spearmint jelly leaf in half lengthwise to make it thinner.
Top off the apple with spearmint leaf candy. Use more peanut butter if necessary to keep it in place.
