Stephanie Minix’s

Rosy Rainbow Room

Stephanie Minix’s Rosy Rainbow Room

Everything’s coming up rosy (and rainbows!) in this 7-year-old’s bedroom. As a birthday surprise for her daughter Kennedy, motherhood and lifestyle blogger Stephanie Minix decided to give her bedroom a totally magical makeover. Working with Pottery Barn Kids’ Design Crew, she set out to find finishes and decor that fit her daughter’s bright, happy-go-lucky personality. Kennedy did have some initial say in the bedroom design, though, and picked the wall color herself (aptly named Rosy Outlook).

As soon as I saw the new rainbow bedding collection, I had to get it. My vision for Kennedy's bedroom started there.

“As soon as I saw the new rainbow bedding collection, I had to get it,” Minix said. “My vision for Kennedy’s bedroom started there. A bright, colorful space—with timeless, traditional white furniture pieces.” Once the foundation was set, Minix layered in softer, sweeter decor pieces to balance the modern Acrylic Wall Shelves and bold Rainbow Tassel Curtains. “Her bedroom reminds me of summer—with the Organic Sunshine Sheet Set, lots of color throughout, and happiness.”

Once she had the form down, it was time to focus on function. In a smart use of space, the Faux Fur Bean Bag Chair converted a corner into a comfy-cozy reading nook—one that Kennedy actually uses! Another wall was transformed into a working art gallery with the Campaign Art Roll and Art Supply Shelf.

And, of course, she couldn’t forget the toys. Minix needed to find a bedroom layout that allowed an additional piece of furniture to complement the space plus serve as toy storage. The Cameron 2-Shelf Bookcase with added storage baskets was the perfect solution. “Functionality was very important! I wanted to utilize the bedroom space the best way possible—and I think we did it! Kennedy now has a space to read, play, sleep and express her creativity,” she said.

At the end of the day, it was a successful mother-daughter collaboration, but Minix’s advice for designing a kid’s room is this: “Get them involved if they’re at an age with an opinion—even if it’s just their bedding! And if you have a design in mind, give them a few choices and let them pick from your favorites.”
