Two Rooms,
Two Ways

Jacquelyn Kazas

Jacquelyn Kazas

California native, co-owner of Beijos Events and mother-of-two, Jacquelyn Kazas teamed up with her designer friend, Jesi Haack, to help update her sons’ bedrooms. When beginning her process, Jacquelyn created a mood board with the pieces she loved and artwork she wanted to hang on the walls. After that, she and Jesi put a rendering of each room together, adding in furniture and other elements to help them visualize what the spaces would end up looking like.

Choosing a beachy modern theme to help pull things together, Jacquelyn looked for colors and objects that reflected the personalities of her sons. For her older son, Court, she focused mainly on his love of surfing and skateboarding, and then added in blues and greens, which helped propel the rest of the design. She went with a bright color palette with pops of yellow for her younger son Cruz’s room and inserted lots of playful accents.

“I wanted to hang art that they’ve created up on the walls and include other pieces reflecting their interests.”

“For Court, we used skateboard decks as shelving and for his art gallery. Then, for Cruz, we added cars and Legos into the design as those are toys he loves.”

The Pottery Barn Kids Sloan Storage Bookcase, Modern Toy Chest and Palm Tree Wallpaper in Cruz’s room are a stylish combo while keeping all his favorite things organized. Jacquelyn filled the shelves with books and toys to add bold color to the space and to make sure it was fun and functional for a four-year old.

The Parson Hutch Desk in Court’s room became the focal point, which came in handy for at-home learning. It’s a spot that he takes pride in and makes him feel like the big kid he’s quickly becoming. And, the navy-blue finish flows with the rest of the space seamlessly.

“The rooms really showcase a few of my family’s favorite things. I think it captures the boys’ loves and interests but has my own
spin on it.”

It was also important to Jacquelyn to include furniture that would grow with her boys and maximize the spaces. She found that all of Pottery Barn Kids’ storage options helped clear the floors and keep the space tidy.
