Founder of FLOUR SHOP, Amirah Kassem, is known for her rainbows, sprinkles, unicorns and smiles. Recently, she teamed up with our Pottery Barn Kids Design Crew to create a colorful nursery for her growing family. See what inspired the space and learn what was most important to her when designing her first nursery.

As a first-time parent, what are the items you use most in the nursery?

As a first-time parent, I use the Sloan dresser for diaper changing and the rocking chair for all the feedings!

How did you determine which piece of furniture or decor you would want as the focal point of the room?

The Sloan crib for sure! It is just so beautifully designed. The lucite bars allow me to walk in and instantly see Coco’s big smile every morning when she wakes up. I also chose the FLOUR SHOP sprinkle wallpaper as a sweet backdrop to the lucite crib. It’s also a crib that converts so she can grow with it!

As you worked to create this space for your child, what were some of the things most important to you?

Happiness and functionality! I wanted to create a happy space. Afterall, it is where most of Coco’s first years will be spent, and I think a happy environment is key. I also wanted to make sure all the pieces of furniture served their full functionality since they are all there for very specific purposes other than looks.

Why were those additional details important to you?

I learned all about GREENGUARD Gold Certification and was excited to know that all the pieces I chose were extremely baby safe, and I didn't have to compromise design for safety.

How does the room’s design reflect your personality?

Oh it's soooo me! It's a pocket of sunshine in my house and it makes me so happy to walk in there and find baby Coco in the happiest possible environment. I want to say it's also her personality because she wakes up smiling from every nap but I can't wait for her to grow into finding all the gems in there from the rainbow rug to her rainbow rocker.
